Xiaomi’s entry into the electric vehicle (EV) market has been nothing short of remarkable. Its first model, the SU7, took the industry by storm, securing nearly 250,000 orders in just nine months. Now, Xiaomi has unveiled its new flagship model, the SU7 Ultra, boasting over 1,500 horsepower at a starting price under $75,000.

Xiaomi’s New Flagship: The SU7 Ultra
Since launching in March 2024, the Xiaomi SU7 has been a major success in China, with the company delivering over 135,000 units by the end of the year. The base model starts at just under $30,000 (215,900 yuan), making it an attractive option in the growing EV market.
On Thursday, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun introduced the highly anticipated SU7 Ultra, which comes in at 529,900 yuan ($73,000), much lower than expected. This high-performance EV is powered by three electric motors generating up to 1,526 horsepower, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 1.98 seconds.
The SU7 Ultra gained significant attention after it went on pre-sale last October for 814,900 yuan ($112,000), receiving 3,680 pre-orders in just 10 minutes. That same month, a prototype of the SU7 Ultra set a record as the fastest four-door sedan at Germany’s famed Nürburgring race track.
Size, Battery, and Performance
The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is comparable in size to the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, measuring 5,115 mm long, 1,970 mm wide, and 1,465 mm tall. It features CATL’s advanced Qilin 2.0 battery pack with a 93.7 kWh capacity, providing a CLTC cruising range of up to 385 miles (620 km).
With a stylish design and cutting-edge technology, the SU7 Ultra has already received over 6,900 orders. Xiaomi plans to begin deliveries in April, with a target of delivering 10,000 units soon after. The company aims to sell approximately 300,000 vehicles in 2025, an impressive feat given its short time in the automotive market.

More Than Just an EV: Xiaomi’s Expanding Product Line
In addition to the SU7 Ultra, Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 15 Ultra smartphone, starting at 6,499 yuan ($893). This aligns with the company’s strategy of integrating smart technology across multiple sectors.
Xiaomi is also offering early buyers incentives worth up to 90,000 yuan ($12,400) for pre-orders placed before March 31. This includes 15 carbon fiber pieces (including the rear wing), interior customization options, Xiaomi’s intelligent driving system, and free delivery.
Electrek’s Take: A Game-Changer in the EV Industry?
The SU7 Ultra is already making waves globally. Ford CEO Jim Farley famously had one shipped from Shanghai to Chicago last year, calling it a “fantastic” vehicle and an “industry juggernaut.”
Xiaomi’s rapid rise in the EV space signals the growing strength of Chinese automakers. As the brand looks to expand beyond China, it could become a significant player in the global EV market. With its competitive pricing, high performance, and tech-forward features, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is certainly a vehicle to watch in the coming years.
