Recently, the car took on the Shanghai International Circuit and outpaced the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT by about 1.5 seconds—a remarkable achievement for a debut model. However, not all versions of the SU7 Ultra are created equal. Xiaomi previously sent a fully track-prepped version of the car—complete with a carbon-fiber body and enhanced aerodynamics—around the Nürburgring. The production version, while still incredibly powerful, retains more of the standard SU7’s body structure, including an aluminum hood instead of full carbon fiber.
First Driving Impressions
Chinese automotive journalists have finally had the chance to test the SU7 Ultra, both on regular roads and on track. Former F1 reporter Haoran Zhou recently took the car for a spin, offering some insightful feedback. Zhou noted that while the car is undeniably quick, its weight is noticeable in corners, particularly when driven in “Endurance Mode,” which caps power output at 900 horsepower to improve track longevity.
One of the most intriguing aspects of the SU7 Ultra is its driver assistance features. Despite its track-focused nature, Xiaomi has incorporated autonomous driving capabilities into the car. Zhou found it surreal that such a high-horsepower machine could partially drive itself, theorizing that these features might be beneficial for saving wear and tear between track sessions.

While Zhou did highlight some minor drawbacks—such as the car’s weight affecting handling in aggressive driving situations—the overall reception has been overwhelmingly positive. The SU7 Ultra’s performance, technology, and price point make it an incredibly compelling option for enthusiasts looking for a high-performance EV that won’t break the bank.
With a proven track record already established against some of the biggest names in the industry, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is shaping up to be one of the most exciting electric cars to emerge from China.
