The Volvo ES90 Is An Electric Sedan With Up To 670 HP

Let’s be honest — for a while there, it felt like sedans were on life support. Especially with EVs, everything was about SUVs and crossovers. But Volvo clearly didn’t get that memo, because they just dropped the ES90, a fully electric sedan (well, technically a liftback) that’s not just stylish — it’s seriously impressive.

Volvo

What’s the Volvo ES90 All About?

This is Volvo’s first-ever mass-produced electric sedan, which is a pretty big deal. It shares its platform with the EX90 SUV, but with some major upgrades. The ES90 swaps out the EX90’s slower 400-volt battery for a cutting-edge 800-volt system — meaning this thing charges fast.

How fast? Try adding 186 miles of range in 10 minutes if you can find a proper fast charger. Total range for the dual-motor version tops out at 435 miles (WLTP), which is wild for something this stylish.

Power Options For Every Driver

Volvo’s offering a few flavors of the ES90, depending on how much power you want:

  • Single Motor RWD – 329 hp, 400 miles of range, 0-60 in 6.7 seconds.

  • Twin Motor AWD – 442 hp, 435 miles of range.

  • Twin Motor Performance – A beastly 670 hp, hitting 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds.

Top speed? 112 mph across the board, because this is still Volvo and safety comes first.

Wait, It’s A Liftback?

Yup — technically this isn’t a “sedan” in the old-school sense. It’s a liftback, which means you get way more practicality when it comes to loading stuff in the trunk. There’s 14.9 cubic feet of trunk space, expanding to 25.8 cubes if you fold the rear seats. Plus, there’s a tiny frunk up front for your charging cables or a weekend bag.

High-Tech, But Still Very Volvo

Inside, Volvo kept things clean and classy. There’s a huge 14.5-inch touchscreen running Google’s built-in software (Maps, Assistant, the works), plus a 9-inch digital driver display and a head-up display for good measure. Everything’s powered by Qualcomm tech and connected with 5G, so software updates and apps should stay fresh.

And in classic Volvo fashion, they made sure the air inside the cabin is some of the cleanest you’ll breathe. There’s a fancy air purifier that’s asthma- and allergy-certified, blocking 95% of fine particles and almost all pollen. They even gave the panoramic roof 99.9% UV protection, so you won’t bake on sunny days. Want it darker? There’s an optional electrochromic roof that tints with a tap.

Safety Overload (In A Good Way)

This is Volvo, so you already know safety is a priority. The ES90 comes packed with:

  • Lidar, radars, cameras, ultrasonic sensors — the whole works.

  • A new system that literally watches the driver’s face to see if you’re paying attention.

  • Full-cabin occupant sensing, so even a sleeping baby’s soft breathing won’t go unnoticed if someone accidentally leaves them in the car.

Everything is tied together by a dual Nvidia chip setup that gives the ES90 some serious computing power. Volvo even said it’s their most advanced car ever, tech-wise.

What’s It Cost?

In Europe, the ES90 starts at around €72,000 (roughly $78,000 USD) for the base version. Want the top-spec Performance model? That’ll run you about €95,500 (close to $103,000 USD). No official word yet on U.S. pricing or availability, but expect it sometime late 2025 or early 2026.

The Verdict

With sedans making a bit of a comeback (thank you, EV revolution), Volvo’s ES90 feels like it’s arriving at just the right time. It’s stylish, fast, packed with tech, and, unlike a lot of luxury EVs, it’s actually practical.

Would you pick this over a Tesla Model S or a Lucid Air? Or is the Volvo badge (and safety reputation) enough to seal the deal? Either way, the ES90 proves sedans are far from dead — and we’re here for it.
